Day 146

On the way to work this morning. This is the day of our big changes and the main reason for my traveling to Jakarta. Here is a city worker looking nonplussed this morning.
Just taking it easy.

Street food vendor. There are many of these. We tried a few and the food was quite good.

One of the many city buses.

Now this is just what I need -- a good nap.

Family of four getting ready to travel...

We saw this piece of graffiti everyday just before pulling into our building.

There is some really fine graffiti in Jakarta. This is along the freeway wall .
Just some kids having a good time.
Now this is what I call a car wash! I'm not sure why they raise them up.  Maybe easier to wash the tires.  Not sure.

These are just some of the desserts at dinner tonight at The Dharmawangsa.

The band playing at dinner tonight.

After dinner I walked around the resort grounds and took this image of the swimming area.

These are the towers next to the main building at the hotel. I stayed in the main building that has 5 or so floors.

Still exhausted in Jakarta...

Day 145

Today we had lunch behind the ConocoPhillips office building in Jakarta. It's Friday and most everyone goes to lunch and then to the Mosque for an hour or two.

Soto Ayam

Soto Ayam or soup with rice. That's liver in there as well. Oh well, I wanted to try the local cuisine. Not too bad, but I don't think there's anyway to make liver taste good.

Friday market
This is a market that only happens on Friday. The place we ate is at the far end of this image.

This is the signature red tile roofs of the slum areas in Jakarta. This one is right next to the office buildings. I'm working these two weeks in the building just visible to the right.
Close-up of the tiles.

This is the alley way to get into this area. Narrow and not where I normally would have gone.

This is the only place to hang the laundry. We saw this all along this particular alley.

For dinner tonight we went to a TexMex restaurant. We stayed long enough and they had a band play tonight. Mostly 70's and 80's music. Pretty good group.

The lead singer and bass guitar. She sang very well.

Secondary singer and full of personality.

Excellent fiddler.

Adrian, Phil and I. (Adrian's girlfriend used my Canon for this shot)

Relaxing on the street.

Out for an early morning stroll.

Day 144

It's been a hectic few days. A lot of work and not much time for photos. Most of the images I took today occurred during the drives to and from work with the window down. Hope you enjoy.  You'll see a wide and varied depiction of wealth and less fortunate within feet of each other here in Jakarta. But it's amazing how wonderful the Indonesians are.  I couldn't pick just a few so enjoy these images from today.

I was wondering if he was taking a photo of me...
City worker doing cleanup and gardening.
Motorbikes everywhere...
This street was entirely lined with building materials. I liked the image of these small logs.
